The Tough Mudder is a well-conceived, well run event that you and your team should get stuck into next year.
The Live Yellow team decided to do Tough Mudder Sydney 2015 last weekend. We actually signed up and paid to do the event last year but there were a few injuries that meant that we had to postpone until this year. Even so, we didn't start with a full complement.
The Tough Mudder is an endurance event that is conducted in cities all around the world that involves military style obstacles, plenty of water and loads of mud. For some, the concept of paying to do an event like that sounds like torture, my wife included. For the rest of us, it's nothing like the name suggests.
We were expecting a bunch of serious adventure types with a take no prisoners attitude that were all gunning for the fastest possible time. Instead we got smiles, laughs, chats and help on numerous occasions to get our team through the next obstacle. The camaraderie, teamwork and overall sense of fun that surrounds the event couldn't be more different from some of the perceptions that we had before the event.
Further to that sentiment, we saw many people dressed up for the occasion. The best costumes we noticed were a couple of men wearing dirndl style dresses that you would expect to see during Oktoberfest. There was also a few teams of nutters that thought it was a good idea to add a little bit more spice to the event by carrying a watermelon with them around the entire course that they had to keep intact. I asked them why and got the simple answe0, Why not. It's hard to argue with that logic.
The 8 reasons your team needs to do Tough Mudder next year:
You're not expected to complete any obstacle and you will never be judged if you don't It's a great team building event and it works for most ages You can do the event at your own pace Everyone will surprise themselves somewhere on the course You get a chance to do things that you would never normally do You don't have to train excessively to prepare, in fact many people do no preparation at all You will enjoy a day full of laughs, ooh's, argh's and a few other things that I will leave to the imagination You get to brag about it on Monday when you get back to work The Tough Mudder is a well-conceived, well run event that you and your team should get stuck into next year.
